The Red Dot Design Award is one of the largest design competitions in the world, with around 20,000 entries per year. This year, the BioStyle aquarium filter from OASE won the award for product design in the aquarium industry.
Excellent design quality, confirmed by an internationally recognised and independent panel of experts: That‘s how decisive and significant the Red Dot Award is. In 2023, the products submitted were evaluated in 51 competition categories. OASE, based in Hörstel, Germany, impressed the jury with its first BioStyle hang-on filter in the aquarium segment. The award ceremony will take place during Red Dot Design Week from 19 to 23 June 2023 in Essen and will be exhibited in the Red Dot museums.
Top design in the aquarium field
OASE has introduced a hang-on filter into its range with the innovative, elegant BioStyle. This hang-on filter can be placed on the outside wall of the aquarium and does not require external hoses. Only the intake pipe is hung in the water and can be adjusted to almost any water level thanks to the telescopic function. This has a protective device that prevents aquarium inhabitants or plants from being sucked in.
The hang-on filter is an ideal solution where there is no room for a conventional external or internal filter or if using external hoses is not appropriate for safety reasons. What‘s more, BioStyle is also very visually appealing. There is no need for a cabinet with the appropriate space to position the filter, and the hang-on filter doesn‘t occupy any space inside the aquarium either. The OASE BioStyle offers a clear view of the underwater world. Introduced in 2022, the product is available in grey and dark blue in three sizes for aquariums up to a maximum of 180 litres.
Thorsten Muck, CEO of OASE, summarises: “In terms of appearance, technology and design, we remain true to ourselves – we focus on the ideal customer experience. We are delighted that the Red Dot jury has awarded our efforts with this coveted prize.“

About the Red Dot Design Award:
The Red Dot Design Award looks back on a history of more than 60 years: In 1955, a jury came together for the first time to evaluate the best designs of the year. In the 1990s, Red Dot CEO Professor Peter Zec developed the name and brand of the award.
Since then, the coveted Red Dot Award has been the internationally respected seal of approval for outstanding design quality. The winners are presented in the Red Dot Yearbook, in Red Dot museums and online. To be able to professionally assess the diversity in the field of design, the competition is divided into three disciplines.
- Red Dot Award: Product Design
- Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design
- Red Dot Award: Design Concept
